Navy missile units deploy as Han Kuang drills begin

Navy mobile missile units rolled out in Kaohsiung today as Taiwan began its
annual Han Kuang military exercises ... which will run for 10 days and nine
nights.

Four missile launch vehicles, a fire-control and command vehicle, and several
support vehicles left the Navy's Zuoying base shortly after noon.

The units practiced moving into deployment positions after receiving orders.

They will first remain on standby at designated force-preservation locations
before carrying out further orders.

The military says the exercise is intended to test the units' operational
readiness and ability to respond quickly.
