Coast Guard monitors Chinese vessels east of Taiwan

The Coast Guard Administration says it is monitoring two Chinese coast guard vessels operating east of Taiwan.
The China Coast Guard has described the activity by the Xiushan (秀山)-led group as a routine law enforcement patrol.
But Taiwan's Coast Guard rejects that characterization, accusing Beijing of using law enforcement claims to expand its jurisdiction.
As of around 8 a.m. this morning, one Chinese vessel was about 151 nautical miles east of Orchid Island, while another was about 43 nautical miles northeast of the island.
Taiwan's Coast Guard says vessels including the Taipei have been deployed to monitor their movements.
The agency says it will continue taking necessary measures to protect Taiwan's sovereignty and maritime security.
