Taiwan High Speed Rail says it hopes to have its new N-700-S-T trains carrying passengers as early as July 1st next year.
T-H-S-R Chair Shih Che (史哲) announced the target as the first of 12 new trainsets officially rolled out of the factory in Japan.
The first train is expected to arrive at Kaohsiung Port on August 15th before undergoing a series of static and operational tests in Taiwan.
Shih says once all 12 trains enter service, the company plans to increase weekly services from the current 1 thousand 134 to more than 1 thousand 400 ... boosting peak-hour capacity by 25 percent.
The N-700-S-T trains are based on Japan's N-700-S Shinkansen and feature quieter cabins, full-color passenger information displays, improved accessibility and upgraded onboard amenities.
