Siraya gain official recognition

The Siraya people have gained official recognition as one of Taiwan's now 17
officially recognized Indigenous tribes.

The move means that Siraya individuals may formally register as such starting
next month.

Premier Zhuo Rong Tai says, the change goes further than just granting Siraya
people recognition...

it also is a form of historical justice and a concrete constitutional
guarantee.

Zhuo says, 8 other tribes are also pending recognition by the Council of
Indigenous Peoples.
