Hai Kun Submarine Conducts Back-to-Back Sea Trials

Taiwan's domestically developed prototype submarine, the Hai Kun, has
conducted back-to-back sea trials off the southern coast as testing enters
its final stages.

Military analyst Chi Tung-yun says the recent testing schedule has
intensified after earlier trials were delayed by typhoons, with crews
repeatedly testing systems to verify their reliability.

Chi also believes the submarine may have entered Tsoying Naval Base during
Wednesday's trial after an additional harbor pilot was seen aboard.

He says the maneuver may have been intended to familiarize the crew with the
route into what will become the submarine's future homeport.

The Hai Kun is expected to undergo endurance and deep-diving tests next ...

... although the Ministry of National Defense Ministry says safety and
quality will take priority and no official deadline has been set for delivery
to the Navy.
