Congo's Ebola Outbreak Surpasses 3,200 Cases

The Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo has surpassed 3,200 confirmed cases, with
aid organizations warning the virus is spreading faster than efforts to
contain it.

The Health Ministry also says over 1,400 deaths had been recorded as of
Monday.

Aid groups say that in just 10 weeks, the outbreak has nearly matched the
scale of Congo's 2018 to 2020 Ebola outbreak, the country's largest on
record.

The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, which has
no approved vaccines or treatments.

Local health officials say insecurity, ongoing conflict and a strike by
healthcare workers demanding unpaid wages are making the outbreak even more
difficult to contain.
