Strong Earthquake Strikes Southern Japan

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake has struck Kumamoto on Japan's Kyushu island,
causing injuries, infrastructure damage and power outages.

Japan's Meteorological Agency briefly issued a tsunami advisory for the
Ariake and Yatsushiro Seas, but lifted it within two hours.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has urged residents to stay away from the
coastline and says the government has set up a task force to assess the
damage and coordinate rescue efforts.

Authorities are warning of the risk of strong aftershocks.

Officials say no abnormalities have been detected at nearby nuclear power
plants, while train services have been suspended for safety inspections.
