The Supreme Court has upheld a 12-year prison sentence for a former Army
sergeant convicted of leaking classified military information in exchange for
financial rewards.

The ruling comes after Sun Chu-Chuan appealed a lower court ruling.

The Supreme Court said it found no error in the lower court's ruling or
application of the law and its sentence is final.

Sun served as a sergeant in the Army's Matsu Defense Command from June 2021
to December 2022 and was indicted on corruption charges and related offenses
in December of last year.

According to the High Prosecutors Office, Sun took photographs of classified
documents with his mobile phone and transmitted them to others in exchange
for cash or cryptocurrency payments.

Prosecutors say Sun was persuaded to leak the classified information by three
people he met on Telegram and transmitted classified materials to them on
eight occasions and received 67,770 N-T in payments.

The prosecutors office has not released any information concerning details of
the classified documents.
