KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun convened the second session of the party's 22nd
National Congress today.

The session was largely a cheerleading session for the 19 KMT nominees
running in municipal and county elections in November this year.

Cheng used part of her speech to tout her accomplishments since taking on the
reins at the KMT a year ago. These include attracting more than 10,000 people
back to the KMT as well as visits to China and the United States.

She also noted that the KMT successfully completed nominations for the
mayoral and county magistrate candidates.

She added that the KMT aims to be the TSMC of Taiwanese politics by "turning
the impossible into the possible."

Cheng said a policy priority by the end of this year will be holding a
referendum on nuclear power.

She said Taiwan has to increase the proportion of energy produced by nuclear
reactors ... otherwise it will have no defense resilience and no future.
