Oil scandal
The KMT is holding a rally this afternoon on Ketagalan Blvd. ... in front of the Presidential Office. It's aimed at urging the government to strengthen food-safety precautions in the aftermath of the Central Union Oil scandal.
The KMT says the DPP is to blame for holes in food security that enabled Central Union Oil to deceive inspectors and its downstream customers about the extent of contamination of its cooking oil with the carcinogen benzo[a]pyrene.
The company has been fined 165 million NT for delaying reporting on the issue ... and several of its executives are being investigated.
The rally will start at 6pm, though people will start to gather on Ketagalan Blvd. at 5pm.
