KMT wins legal battle over NT$3.2 billion party asset penalty
Posted on 2026-07-24 08:13:13
The K-M-T has won a lawsuit against the government's Ill-gotten Party Assets
Settlement Committee.

The committee had been seen seeking to collect 3.2-billion N-T for land it
claimed was acquired illegally by the K-M-T during the authoritarian era.

The Supreme Administrative Court's ruling upholds a lower court ruling made
in May of last year, that revoked its decision to collect the funds from the
opposition party.

The ruling is final and cannot be appealed.

The plot of land at the center of the claim is located in Taipei's Wenshan
District.

The Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee - which was established by
the government of former president Tsai Ing-wen - had claimed the land to
constitute part of the KMT's ill-gotten assets following investigations into
complaints filed by citizens.

The committee ordered the K-M-T to forfeit an equivalent value of
approximately 3.2-billion N-T for selling off parts of the land, citing the
Act Governing the Settlement of Ill-gotten Properties by Political Parties
and Their Affiliate Organizations.
