Prosecutors appeal additional bail granted to Central Union manager
Posted on 2026-07-24 06:57:18
The Taichung District Prosecutors' Office is appealing the Taichung District
Court's decision to uphold a ruling calls for the release of a Central Union
Oil Corporation factory manager on bail.

The suspect was originally released on bail two weeks ago.

Prosecutors argue the man is a key figure in its ongoing investigation into
the cooking oil contamination case.

The Taichung District Court on Thursday ordered the factory manager to post
an additional 1-million N-T bail.

The court had ruled that the suspect did not need to be detained, and along
with ordering him to post the additional bail, the court also placed him
under residential restrictions and barred him from leaving Taiwan.

The man is said to have cooperated with investigators after originally being
released on bail following his initial questioning and there is no evidence
he could tamper with evidence or collude with other suspects.

The man was among 11 suspects questioned by prosecutors during initial
searches of Central Union and three other companies on July 9.

Ten of those suspects were released on bail, while prosecutors sought the
detention of Central Union General Manager Yu Ling-chung.

Yu was ordered detained last Friday, after the district court initially ruled
that detention was unnecessary and granted Yu bail of 20-million N-T.
