China is holding two days of live-fire drills in areas of the Taiwan Strait
‌near its southeastern province of Fujian around Dongshan Island,

These come a day after U-S Secretary of State Marco ​Rubio and Chinese
Foreign Minister Wang Yi met for talks on ​a range of issues, including
Taiwan.

The foreign ministry here in Taiwan is slamming the live fire drills and
urging Beijing to ​exercise "rational self-restraint" and "immediately cease
its military provocations and gray-zone intrusions."

MOFA says China has ‌disregarded the international community's shared
aspirations for regional security, further unilaterally using military force
to threaten the waters surrounding the Taiwan Strait ...

.... creating regional tensions, and once again confirming ​its nature ​as a
troublemaker.

China held extensive war games ​encircling Taiwan and launching rockets into
waters north and south of the island in December of last year, after the U-S
​unveiled an 11.1-billion dollar arms package for the island
