Volunteers Help Restore Ancient Amphibian Skeleton
Posted on 2026-07-22 19:08:13
More than 2,000 volunteers are helping Polish scientists restore the skeleton
of a Mastodonsaurus, one of the largest amphibian predators of its time.

The fossil was unearthed in southern Poland in 2023 and is believed to be the
largest nearly complete Mastodonsaurus skeleton ever discovered.

The animal lived about 240 million years ago, near the dawn of the dinosaur
age, where it preyed on fish and smaller amphibians.

Volunteers at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw are carefully removing
rock from the fossil as part of the restoration effort.

Scientists hope to complete the work by the end of the year and eventually
put the skeleton on public display.
