Retired Navy official detained on suspicion of corruption

A retired Navy rear admiral has been detained in Kaohsiung on suspicion of
corruption.

Prosecutors say the officer, surnamed Shih, used his position to help a solar
power company win a government contract worth more than fifty million NT.

He allegedly allowed the company to install solar panels at the naval command
he once led.

In return, prosecutors allege he took more than one million NT in kickbacks.

A court ordered him and two others detained yesterday night, citing a risk of
collusion.

All three deny the allegations.
