New data show that confidence in Taiwan's economy weakened in July amid lingering concerns over tensions in the Middle East.
It's from a survey by Cathay Financial Holding which found that consumers have become less optimistic about both current economic conditions and the outlook for the next six months.
It also showed that people are becoming more cautious about spending, with willingness to purchase big-ticket and durable goods both declining from June.
Despite the weaker sentiment, respondents still expect Taiwan's economy to grow by an average of 9 percent this year.
Consumers also expect inflation to remain elevated, forecasting average consumer price growth of 2.3 percent, with more than two-thirds expecting inflation to exceed the central bank's 2 percent warning level.
