The Philippine government has lodged a strong protest over an animated video by Chinese state-owned media that appears to depict Filipinos as monkeys.
The video, posted by China Daily, criticizes the 2016 international arbitration ruling on the South China Sea and mocks the Philippines' legal challenge against China's territorial claims.
Manila has demanded that the video be removed, calling it racist and demeaning.
China's Foreign Ministry says the video does not represent the government's official position, but reiterated Beijing's longstanding view that the arbitration ruling is politically motivated and invalid.
The incident comes amid continuing tensions between the two countries over disputed areas of the South China Sea.
