Brazilian Mothers Seek Support for Victims' Families

A group of Brazilian mothers whose sons were killed by police are calling for
a nationwide policy to support families affected by state violence.

The nonprofit Crossfire Institute says 460 people were killed during police
operations in Rio de Janeiro last year, the highest number since 2016 and a
sharp increase from the previous year.

Among the activists is Monica Cunha, whose 20-year-old son was killed by
police in 2006.

Cunha later entered politics and says she will launch her campaign this month
to run for a seat in Brazil's state legislature in October.
