American professor arrested after fatal stabbing in Hsinchu

A U.S. citizen who teaches at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University has
been arrested after allegedly stabbing a relative to death in Hsinchu.

Police say the 43-year-old suspect attacked the owner of a musical instrument
store on Sanmin Road Tuesday afternoon.

Officers found the victim lying in a pool of blood and the suspect still
holding a knife.

Police say he refused to surrender and repeatedly confronted officers.

They fired four shots, hitting him in the leg, before taking him into custody.

Ten people, including four children, were trapped inside the store during the
incident.

The victim was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the motive and circumstances of the killing.

The university says it will cooperate with the investigation.
