China's Taiwan Affairs Office is rejecting reports that Taiwanese nationals have gone missing in China, calling them "fake news".
The denial comes after the Mainland Affairs Council said 10 Taiwanese citizens have gone missing or had their personal freedom restricted in China during the first nine days of this month.
According to the M-A-C, a total of 385 Taiwanese nationals have gone missing, been detained or had their personal freedom restricted in China since 2024.
The council says it is investigating the latest cases and has upgraded its travel alert for Hong Kong and Macau to orange, advising Taiwanese citizens to be aware of safety risks when traveling to China.
China's Taiwan Affairs Office says the number of Taiwanese people visiting China has continued to increase since 2024.
