NGOs call on LY to accelerate assisted repro bill

Women's groups are calling on the legislative yuan to accelerate reviews of
the Assisted Reproduction draft bill.

The NGOs emphasized the need to act quickly to protect women's rights and
allow single women and same-sex female couples to undergo assisted
reproduction.

The proposed amendments to the draft bill would also seek to separate
assisted reproduction from surrogacy.

The Legislature is set to continue the examination process of the draft on
Thursday...

after the Executive Yuan proposed it last year.

The draft legislation would legalize assisted reproduction for single and
married gay women, without addressing surrogacy, which has proven to be a
much thornier issue in terms of public opinion.
