Taiwan's president mourns death of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham

President Lai Ching-te has expressed his condolences over the death of U-S
Senator Lindsey Graham, calling the South Carolina lawmaker "a true friend of
Taiwan".

Graham, a longtime senator and close ally of U-S President Donald Trump,
passed away Saturday night U-S time at the age of 71, after what his office
said was "a brief and sudden illness.

Lai on social media said Senator Graham will always be remembered as an
unwavering advocate (for Taiwan) and defender of freedom.

In a separate statement, Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧)
said Graham championed legislation friendly towards Taiwan, supported the
country’s participation in the international community ...

... as well as stronger self-defense capabilities and closer Taiwan-U.S.
economic and trade ties.
