Danjiang Bridge set to close tonight

The Highway Bureau plans to close Danjiang Bridge tonight as Typhoon Bavi
approaches.

The pedestrian and bicycle path and motorcycle lanes are expected to close at
8 p.m.

The main roadway and bus lanes are expected to close at 11 p.m.

Drivers traveling between Tamsui and Bali are advised to use Guandu Bridge
instead.

Officials say the exact timing could change depending on weather conditions.

The bridge can withstand very strong winds, but its location at the mouth of
the Tamsui River leaves it exposed to sudden gusts.

Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai says the bridge is expected to reopen
on July 12, depending on wind conditions.



Crews will inspect the bridge for about two hours before traffic is allowed
to resume.
