Posted on 2026-07-10 18:29:13
Approach

Further work and class suspensions have been announced, as rain and winds
pick up with Typhoon Bavi on approach.

Taichung City, Nantou County, and some townships in Chiayi County, have
announced that schools and offices will be closed starting 6pm tonight.

That's in addition to some townships in Kaohsiung, which made a similar
announcement earlier this afternoon.

Full work and school closures for Saturday have been confirmed in Hsinchu
County, Taichung, Nantou, Miaoli, Pingtung, and Tainan.

Other local decisions are pending.

Meanwhile...

The Central Emergency Operation Center says five people have been injured so
far, due to rough conditions brought on by the approaching Typhoon Bavi.

Officials say the cases involving scooter falls on slippery roads and a
person struck by a collapsed canopy structure.

All have been treated and discharged.

As of 2 p.m., 2,050 people have been evacuated across Taiwan.

In Hualien, nearly 200 residents from communities downstream of a
landslide-dammed lake on Wanli Creek have been relocated, and over 400 people
are in emergency shelters nationwide.

Waves of up to 8.6 meters have been detected in southeastern waters, and
residents are urged to stay away from beaches and shorelines.

Gusts of wind 118-kilometers per hour or higher are forecast tomorrow, for
Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Yilan, and outlying islands.

Officials are urging the public to complete typhoon preparations and remain
indoors.
