Taiwan Population Continues Fall for 30th Consecutive Month

Taiwan's total population fell again for June, marking 30 consecutive months of negative population growth.
According to the latest demographic data released by the Ministry of the Interior today, Taiwan's population decreased to 23-million-243-thousand-565 by the end of June.
Taiwan recorded only 7,324 newborns in June, bringing the total for the first half of the year to 46,344.
Compared to the first half of last year, the number of newborns dropped by more than 9-thousand.
Taiwan officially transitioned into a "super-aged society" last year, meaning more than one in five citizens is aged 65 or older.
Looking at individual municipalities, Taipei City has the oldest demographic profile in the nation, with seniors accounting for over 24-percent of its residents.
Conversely, Hsinchu County remains the youngest, with seniors making up just 15-percent of its local population.
