Meteorologist Wu Der-rong is warning of gale-force winds for parts of Taiwan, as Bavi approaches.
Wu says tomorrow and Saturday, areas north of Taichung and all mountainous regions must brace for heavy winds and torrential rainfall.
Furthermore, regions closest to the typhoon's eyewall, including Pengjia Islet, and the north and northeast coastal areas could experience the strongest of these winds.
The eyewall is the ring of tall thunderstorms that surrounds the center of a typhoon, and produces the strongest winds in the entire storm.
Wu says Bavi will maintain its status as a large "severe typhoon" until it interacts with Taiwan's terrain on Saturday.
Conditions are expected to gradually ease later Saturday night as the storm moves away.
