Health officials are urging the public to follow critical water safety guidelines, as millions of students kick off their summer vacations.
The Health Promotion Administration issued guidelines today, highlighting three steps to minimize risks during summer water activities, which involve observing the environment for weather conditions or warnings, choosing legal, monitored sites for swim or play, and learning about self-rescue and emergency reporting.
Officials stress that if someone is spotted drowning, bystanders must never jump into the water blindly to attempt a rescue, as this frequently leads to secondary casualties.
Instead, observers should shout loudly for help and immediately call emergency services.
