A road collapse and gas leak at the redevelopment site of Formosa Plastics Group's former headquarters in Taipei's Songshan District prompted the evacuation of nearby residents and traffic restrictions.
The Taipei Fire Department says a sinkhole measuring about 4-meters in length, 2-meters and width and 1-meter in depth appeared on Dunhua North Road.
The collapse of the road ruptured a gas pipeline, and gas services were halted.
Firefighters cordoned off the area, evacuated nearby residents, and imposed traffic restrictions.
The Taipei City Department of Urban Development says the incident was related to construction work being carried out by B-E-S Engineering at the redevelopment site.
The company could face a fine due to violations of the Building Act for causing the pipeline rupture and road collapse.
