The Mainland Affairs Council is accusing China of "glorifying violence" after Beijing described the assault of a Taiwan-based Japanese political commentator in Taichung as motivated by "righteous indignation."
The Council says Beijing's failure to condemn the assault and describe it as an "ordinary" public security case is evidence on "an attempt to treat Taiwanese people like fools."
Akio Yaita was punched in the face while making a phone call in a hotel lobby by a man from Hong Kong.
Akio Yaita has just finished giving a speech at an an event when he was punched in the face.
The council pointed out that when major social incidents in Taiwan have attracted public attention in recent years, China's Taiwan Affairs Office has has been quick to speak up for the parties or suspects involved ...
.... even as it accused Taiwan of "political persecution" or "political suppression."
The suspect in the assault is being held after he was arrested at Taichung International Airport... he was allegedly preparing to board a flight to Busan, South Korea.
