Taipower says it is preparing for possible widespread power outages as Super Typhoon Bavi approaches Taiwan.
The state-run utility has mobilized more than 7,300 personnel, along with thousands of vehicles and pieces of equipment, and says it has completed line inspections, tree pruning and pole reinforcement to help prevent storm damage.
Repair crews and equipment have also been pre-positioned in vulnerable mountain and outlying island areas, while cross-regional support teams will be activated if major outages occur.
Meanwhile, Economics Minister Gong Ming-xin is urging local governments to step up flood prevention efforts, including clearing drainage systems and lowering water levels in flood retention ponds ahead of the storm.
He also called on local governments to ensure water pumps and other flood-control equipment are fully operational.
