Taipei Mayor is trading fire with the central government over the recent contaminated cooking oil issue.
Mayor Chiang Wan An yesterday criticized Executive Yuan's handling of the issue, saying the Food and Drug Administration received related reports in late June but waited a whole week before publicizing it.
He said President Lai Ching-te and Premier Zhuo Rong-tai have let the people down, adding that the central government has failed to adequately monitor the quality of food oils.
But Premier Zhuo said today that the central government is handling the situation with urgency...
and said that he hoped local governments would "focus on typhoon preparation."
Zhuo stressed that the central government will announce any food safety issues as soon as it receives notifcation, and take those products off the shelves.
