Despite June CPI spike, inflation to go below 2% in 2026: Central bank

Taiwan's inflation is expected to stay below 2 percent in 2026, even though consumer prices rose 2.6 percent in June - the biggest increase in 17 months.
Central bank Governor Yang Chin-long (楊金龍) says falling global crude oil prices, now close to 70 U-S dollars a barrel, mean Taiwan is not at risk of imported inflation.
Government data show inflation has now remained above the 2 percent mark for a second straight month after rising 2.2 percent in May.
Consumer prices increased 2.17 percent in the second quarter.
Yang says June's figures were broadly in line with the central bank's expectations, and it is still forecasting inflation of 1.91 percent for the year.
Fuel prices in June jumped 19.45 percent from a year earlier, while airfares rose 13.49 percent and vegetable prices climbed 10.05 percent because of higher oil prices and recent heavy rain.
