US Senator reaffirms American commitment in wake of Trump-Xi summit

Visiting U-S Senator Tammy Duckworth says her trip to Taiwan this week is aimed at aimed at sending a clear message that US-Taiwan ties remain strong and will not "be swayed by any one president."
Duckworth said she's proud to be the first U-S senator to visit Taiwan since President Donald Trump's "disastrous" summit with Xi Jin-ping in Beijing.
The democratic senator from Illinois said she is in Taipei to deliver the message that - "regardless of president or party, Congress' commitment to Taiwan is steadfast."
Duckworth described the U.S-Taiwan relationship as being "strong and enduring," and one that will "not to be swayed by any one president, either Democratic or Republican."
She went on to stress that her "bipartisan colleagues in Congress, will continue to push for continued support for Taiwan and to uphold decades of U.S. policy in support of Taiwan's security, as Taiwan's security matters not only to the U-S but also to the rest of the world.
