U.S. foreign policy expert Bonnie Glaser says democracies cannot rely on military strength alone to deter China.
Glaser told a summit in Taipei today that Beijing competes across economic, technological, political and information domains, and is often strongest outside the military sphere.
She says democracies need to respond by strengthening supply chains, protecting independent media and improving cyber defenses.
Glaser also described Taiwan as a "living laboratory for democratic resilience," saying the island provides an important example of how open societies can respond to growing pressure from China.
