The Mainland Affairs Council says China could have been involved in an attack on a Taiwan-based political comentator.
Akio Yaita, who is executive director of the Indo-Pacific Strategic Thinktank, had been invited to speak in Taichung on Monday.
Yaita says he was hit by a man after he delivered his address.
A Hong Kong man was arrested in connection with the incident... he was picked up shortly before he boarded a flight to South Korea.
MAC said the case bore "strong similarities" to two cases of vandalism on Taiwan-based Hong Kong activist Tong Wai-hung's (湯偉雄) Muay Thai studio in Taipei... as the perpetrators fled Taiwan shortly after the incidents.
MAC described the attack on Yaita as the "first case of transnational repression" in Taiwan since China's Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law took effect on July 1.
