Calls Grow for Student Health Monitoring After Oil Scare

Lawmakers across party lines are calling for a long-term health monitoring program after contaminated soybean oil was found to have been used in school lunches at 50 schools in New Taipei City.
Following a citywide inspection, the contaminated oil has been removed from use, taken off shelves, and placed under seal.
The KMT caucus in the New Taipei City Council praised the city government's quick response in tracing the products and publishing a list of affected schools.
However, lawmakers still emphasized that identifying the schools is only the first step.
They urged authorities to establish a comprehensive system covering prevention, traceability, emergency response, and follow-up care.
DPP councilors called for greater transparency, saying parents still do not know how long the contaminated oil had been used, which products were involved, or what health risks their children may face.
They requested that the city government provide regular updates, health consultations, and long-term medical monitoring for affected students to help ease parental concerns.
