New Taipei Activates Typhoon Preparations Ahead of Bavi

New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih is ordering city agencies to step up preparations
as Super Typhoon Bavi approaches Taiwan.

Hou says the storm is expected to have its greatest impact on the city from
Friday night through Saturday and has instructed departments to prepare for
heavy rain and strong winds.

City officials say Bavi remains a powerful typhoon with an exceptionally
large wind field, meaning its outer circulation could bring severe weather to
northern Taiwan even if the center does not make landfall.

Hou is also urging residents to stock up on emergency supplies and closely
monitor the latest weather forecasts.
