Taipei Main Station Man Accidentally Sprays Pepper Spray

Police have located a man who discharged pepper spray at a Taipei MRT exit
today, causing discomfort for nearby commuters.

Metro police received a report earlier this afternoon that a man had sprayed
an unknown substance near Exit M8 of Taipei Main Station, causing commuters
at the scene to cough and cover their faces.

Surveillance footage showed the man apparently picking up a pepper spray
canister near the exit, then accidentally sprayed it on himself, causing the
surrounding crowd to react to the irritant.

The man then discarded the canister in a trash can and left the scene.

Police confirmed no one required medical attention, and metro operations were
not affected.


Officers were able to identify the man with surveillance footage, and sya
that he was located about 2 and a half hours after the fact in Taichung.
