The Interior Ministry is raising concerns about potential amendments to the Stalking and Harassment Prevention Act.
That's after DPP Lawmaker Lin Yue Qin and KMT Lawmaker Wang Yu Min王育敏 proposed to amend the law to get rid of language defining stalking as being related to a the victim's sex or gender.
Interior Minister Liu Shi Fang says today that she's concerned the law may have negative impacts upon how police officers operate in cases of harassment or stalking.
The minister stated that some lawmakers believe police may be unable to determine whether or not the crime is related to the victim's gender or is of a sexual nature...
which may lead to missed cases.
But she added that the MOI has already implemented training programs requiring officers to prioritize victim protection.
She emphasized that broadening the language of the law may accidentally include instances of bullying or workplace disputes.
