Taichung mayor doubles down on push for drone production

Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen is renewing her call to make central Taiwan the
hub of the island's drone industry.

Lu says the region already has the manufacturing base, supply chain and
skilled workforce needed to support drone development.

She is urging the central government to devote more resources to the region
and formally establish a drone corridor in Taichung.

Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang says central Taiwan's manufacturing
strengths make it well placed to turn U-S artificial intelligence technology
into commercial drone products.

Meanwhile, DPP lawmaker Ho Hsin-chun is again calling for the Executive
Yuan's proposed 210 billion NT special budget for the drone industry, warning
that relying on the regular annual budget could create funding uncertainty.
