Authorities have launched a nationwide recall after a batch of soybean salad oil was found to contain excessive levels of benzo[a]pyrene, or BaP, a cancer-causing substance.
Officials say the contaminated oil, supplied by Chung Lien Oils Corporation, was distributed to three major food manufacturers, including Taishan (泰山), Fushou (福壽), and Fumao (福懋).
The company voluntarily reported the problem after internal testing found BaP levels at about four times Taiwan's legal limit.
Authorities have ordered Chung Lien to halt production while local governments inspect retailers to ensure the affected products are removed from store shelves.
Consumers are being advised to stop using the recalled products and return them for a refund.
Officials also warn that businesses must not continue selling recalled products or face fines of up to 30 thousand NT.
