Iranian state television says a foreign container ship has run aground in the Strait of Hormuz after failing to follow an approved Iranian shipping route.
The report did not identify the vessel or provide further details about the incident.
Iranian media said ships using the strategic waterway must follow instructions from the country's Revolutionary Guard.
The grounding comes amid renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, despite an interim agreement between Iran and the United States intended to keep the vital shipping lane open.
Efforts to establish an alternative route near Oman's coast have also continued following recent exchanges of fire in the region.
