Protests Held Over Illegal Immigration in South Africa
Posted on 2026-06-30 19:58:13
Thousands of demonstrators have gathered across parts of South Africa to
protest illegal immigration.
The groups blame undocumented migrants for unemployment, crime and other
social problems, and have called for them to leave the country.
The South African government has not recognized a deadline set by some
protest organizers for migrants to depart.
Police have deployed hundreds of officers in cities including Johannesburg
and Durban amid concerns about possible violence.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged demonstrators to protest peacefully after
meeting with some of the groups' leaders.
