Animal Welfare Groups Raise Heatwave Concerns

Animal welfare activists in Montenegro are raising concerns about abandoned
animals as a heatwave grips much of Europe.

Several horses have been seen roaming the outskirts of the capital,
Podgorica, without access to shelter, food or water, as temperatures approach
40 degrees Celsius.

The animals have been spotted near an illegal dumpsite and several informal
settlements.

Activists say the horses are at risk in the extreme heat, though it remains
unclear who owns them or how they came to be abandoned.
