Taiwan recorded its wettest plum rain season since 2012, with Taipei experiencing its wettest June since weather records began.
The Central Weather Administration says this year's May-to-June rainy season brought nearly 610 millimeters of rain nationwide, well above the historical average.
Forecasters say stationary weather fronts, southwesterly winds and the outer circulation of a tropical storm combined to bring prolonged heavy rain, particularly to western Taiwan.
Looking ahead, the weather agency expects normal to above-normal temperatures from July through September and forecasts three to five tropical storms or typhoons to pass near Taiwan during the second half of the year.
In addition, the CWA plans to introduce new coastal wave warnings tomorrow ... which marks the first day of Taiwan's typhoon season.
Cell broadcast alerts will be issued when waves of 6 meters or higher are forecast along coastal areas.
