The U-S State Department is crediting parliamentary exchanges as being key elements aimed at strengthening US-Taiwan ties
According to a state department spokesperson, the robust unofficial relationship between the U-S and Taiwan is strengthened through regular interactions between officials and lawmakers from political parties from both sides.
The statement comes after Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu and members of a cross-party delegation returned from Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
Han and the delegation met with several senators, more than 30 bipartisan members of the House of Representatives, and with officials from the White House and the U-S Department of War during the trip.
The talks focused on US-Taiwan security cooperation, the development of the drone industry, assisting Taiwan in expanding its international participation, and improving the ease of investment for Taiwanese businesses in the U-S.
A State Department official says the "the strong unofficial relationship between the U-S and Taiwan is boosted through regular interactions."
