Hualien's Wanli Creek barrier lake at risk of overflowing

The Forestry Conservation Department in Hualien issued a red alert at noon
today to warn that the Wanli Creek barrier lake could overflow in the next 24
hours.

The reservoir is at 70 percent capacity, and at least 73 millimeters of rain
is expected in the next 24 hours, satisfying the red-alert threshold. If the
area's tsunami siren sounds, some 200 people will have to evacuate
immediately.
