New Taipei's long-awaited Sanying Metro Line will officially open on June 30th, or this coming Tuesday ... with free rides for passengers using transit smart cards through the end of August.
The new 14.3-kilometer line has 12 stations linking Tucheng, Sanxia and Yingge, and is expected to cut travel times between the Sanying area and central Taipei by about 20 minutes.
Passengers will be able to transfer to Taipei Metro's Blue Line at Dingpu Station and Taiwan Railway services at Yingge Station.
Ahead of the opening, Taipei Metro says it is reconfiguring Blue Line trains to handle an expected increase in passengers transferring at Dingpu during the morning rush.
The trains are being modified with fewer seats and more standing room, allowing each train to carry about 72 additional passengers.
Taipei Metro is also adjusting train schedules and deploying extra staff at busy stations.
