Director James Burrows, 85, dies

James Burrows, the director behind iconic TV comedies like "Cheers," "Taxi,"
"Friends" and "Will and Grace," has died.

His family confirmed his death in a statement to People magazine, saying he
passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

Burrows directed over a thousand TV episodes.

He started his TV career at 35, working on shows that included "The Mary
Tyler Moore Show" and "Laverne & Shirley."

His father was writer, director and producer Abe Burrows, whose Broadway hits
included "Guys and Dolls" and "Can-Can."

The elder Burrows also mentored Larry Gelbart, future creator and producer of
the TV show "MASH."
