KMT chair supports self-defense "if Taiwan does not declare independence"

KMT Chair Zheng Li Wen says, she would be in favor of retaliating against a
Chinese invasion...

so long as Taiwan does not declare independence.

Zheng emphasizes that the KMT supports pursuing peace, but would not give up
on self defense.

She added, the KMT opposes Taiwan declaring independence, but if Taiwan did
not declare independence, and China still invaded Taiwan, Zheng said "we
would certainly retaliate."

The comments come after an interview Zheng gave with the Economist, in which
she said that Taiwan should not become a pawn, adding that she hopes to
undertake more exchange with the US and other international partners.

She added that she considered her recent US trip to be a success, saying that
she hopes to convince leaders in Washington DC that peace is pursued through
dialogue.
